Kaguya Hime (かぐや姫) is the old Japanese folktale of a girl discovered inside a bamboo shoot while still a baby. According to eiga.com (Japanese), this story is going to be brought to the silver screen in 2010 as Taketori Monogatari (竹取物語) by acclaimed Studio Ghibli co-chief and director Isao Takahata. Although there has been no official word from Studio Ghibli, several sources including Takahata himself have let the cat out of the bag.
My first encounder with Isao Takahata's films were during the early 90's, with Hotaru no Haka and Omohide Poro Poro. Of course, there was no subtitled version at the time, and my Japanese comprehension was not up par with these titles back then, so I basically just enjoyed the view. Recently, I've been meaning to check out these old titles just to see how much my listening comprehension has progressed.
