Kogei in Kanazawa

On the second floor of the Rifare building (a couple blocks from Kanazawa station's East exit) there's an excellent art exhibition in progress: The International Triennale of KOGEI in Kanazawa.

The exhibition is a compilation of modern, industrial, and traditional styles of "crafts" from many different Chinese, Japanese, and Korean artists. A couple of my favorite pieces are a spaceship-like pyramid, think Borg x Chronicles of Riddick by Takashi Takamura. Also impressive was Kengo Kuma's aluminum truss system to create home furniture and storage solutions (seen above).

If you're in the area, definitely check it out. It's a free exhibition running through June 20th, 2010. More details here (English).
